You Know You Are From Texas If You Recognize These
Closed Published August 9th, 2011 in Uncategorized.Did you know that Texas was once a country unto itself? The Republic of Texas was formed in 1836 and lasted nearly ten years until the United States agreed to annex it and awarded Texas statehood in 1845. This brief independence did not come easily, battles with Mexico and money woes plagued the nation. However, the foundation was laid to make Texas what it is today. Mention the name Texas anywhere and most people think of a state where things are just a little different from most places.
Things you may only recognize if you are from Texas:
Armadillo - a prehistoric looking animal that wears armor and has long claws.
Nopalitos – prickly pear cactus that has spines removed and is prepared to be eaten.
A cowboy that wears size 70 boots – Big Tex at State Fair of Texas.
A bowl of red – true Texas chili never has beans in it.
Cadillac Ranch – a line of car bodies buried nose down, rear-end up along the highway to Amarillo.
Austin bats – millions of tiny bats fly out from under the Congress Street Bridge to feed each evening.
Flags – which six have flown over Texas.Want to know more? Go ahead: Photo gallery: State Fair of Texas’ Big Tex dons new duds www.pegasusnews.com Dallas/Fort Worth
